Hugo Duro: "It's a privilege to play at Mestalla with a fanbase that helps us so much"
Hugo Duro spoke in the post-match the press conference after the Valencia CF-Nottingham Forest FC (1-2) to share his thoughts on the game.
Is today's goal important for you to regain your confidence?
I had a difficult first half of the season due to injury. I've been working to get my ankle back to full fitness. I feel better and this goal is helping me.
How have you seen the international players on their return from the World Cup?
They've had a few extra days that they didn't have because of the World Cup. Little by little they are going to get back in shape. They'll be at their best for the start of LaLiga and they'll help us like the rest of the team.
How would you describe Mestalla?
I've only been here a short time but long enough to know that Mestalla is special. It's a privilege to play at Mestalla with this fabase that helps us so much and pushes us on so hard.
We have seen you play as a midfielder, a wide midfielder... Have you ever played in that position before?
I've played as a second striker for quite a few years. With Cavani's arrival, who is a more of a number nine, the coach wanted to try me there. I want to play wherever I can and try to help.
You take the second half of the season as a reset to forget the first half of the season and think about the second half. Is there something else going through your mind other than playing for Valencia CF?
I have a contract here. I'm very happy. The fans love me a lot. I'm very happy and if nobody tells me otherwise, I'm delighted to stay here for many years. I have suffered a lot mentally, I used to come home almost crying because I couldn't be at 100%. After these months that I've had a bad time, I can train and play comfortably.
How has the break affected the team and you in particular?
It was good for the group. We were winning. It would have been better if the competition had continued. The team switched off and now it's time to focus on Valencia CF.me it has been a reset for me, because it was hard for me to train.
